Mahakal Sawari 2026: Changes in Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Temple Darshan Rules, Bhasma Aarti Timings, and Full Sawari Schedule
If you are planning a spiritual journey to the holy city of Ujjain to seek the blessings of Baba Mahakal between July 30 and September 7, 2026, this update is crucial for you. Keeping the massive influx of devotees during the auspicious Shravan-Bhadon months in mind, the temple administration has introduced significant changes to the daily rituals, darshan management, and processing queues.
The decisions were finalized in a high-level meeting chaired by the Temple Management Committee President and Collector, Roshan Kumar Singh, along with Temple Administrator Pratham Kaushik. Here is everything you need to know before planning your visit.
Water Offering (Jal Arpan) Facility for All Devotees
Unlike previous years where access to the sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagriha) was heavily restricted due to crowds, the administration has introduced a smooth system this time. According to Temple Administrator Pratham Kaushik, all visiting devotees will be allowed to offer water (Jal Arpan) to the Jyotirlinga, mirroring the facilities traditionally given to Kanwar Yatris.
Additionally, to ensure that maximum devotees can witness the divine daily aartis, a moving darshan (Chalit Darshan) system has been introduced. Devotees will be able to witness the aarti dynamically from the first three rows of the Kartik Mandapam without causing long halts in the queue.
New Bhasma Aarti Timings (Shravan-Bhadon 2026)
The world-famous ‘Bhasma Aarti’ schedule of Mahakaleshwar Temple has been altered from July 30 to September 7 to accommodate early morning crowds. Note the revised timings below:
- On Regular Days: The Bhasma Aarti will be performed daily from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM.
- On Every Monday: The doors (Pat) of the temple will open exceptionally early at 2:30 AM. On these days, the Bhasma Aarti will take place from 2:30 AM to 4:30 AM.
Pro-Tip: Mondays during the Shravan month witness millions of devotees arriving from across the globe. Ensure your entry passes or online bookings are sorted well in advance keeping these early hours in mind.
