Nag Panchami – Day to Worship Snake Gods
Nag Panchami is a holy Hindu festival where people worship nagas (snakes). It is believed that snakes are close to gods and protecting our land. People offer milk, flowers, and prayers to Nag Devta on this day.
This festival comes in the month of Saawan, on the fifth day (Panchami) of Shukla Paksha. It usually falls in July or August.
🐍 Why We Celebrate Nag Panchami?
As per old stories, snakes are connected to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Subramanya. Lord Shiva wears snake on his neck. Also, snakes live under the earth and are said to protect hidden treasures.
Nag Panchami is also done to protect family from snake bites, fear, and bad dreams. It is also said to bring peace, rain, and crop growth.
🙏 What to Do on Nag Panchami? (Puja Vidhi)
- Wake up early and take bath
- Visit temple or ant hill (saanp ka bill) if safe
- Offer milk, turmeric, rice, flowers, and sweets to Nag Devta
- Do fast (vrat) – some people eat only once that day
- Draw snake images with haldi or kumkum on walls and worship
- Chant: “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasuki Nagaaya Namah”
